I recently read Close to Famous, by Joan Bauer. This book is gret for middle school students, especially those with an interest in baking. Close to Famous is about an aspiring baker named Foster who fled from a dangerous Elvis impersonater in Memphis to Culpepper, a small town in North Carolina. Here, Foster was forced to begin a new life, meet new friends, and with the help of a retired movie star; face one of the biggest challenges in her life--learning to read. Close to Famous is a touching book about believing in yourself, following your dreams, and making some delicious cupcakes along the way.

ABC's Once Upon a Time

On Sunday nights from 8-9; ABC's hit drama, Once Upon a Time brings you back into the stories of some of the most beloved storybook characters-- Snow White, Prince Charming, Rumplestiltskin, Jiminy Cricket, the Evil Queen, and more--only this time, they're everyday people.
Long ago, the evil queen cast a spell on all fairytale creatures, changing them into human beings. Thankfully, before the queen's spell was cast, Snow White and Prince Charming sent their daughter Emma into the real world, so she could break the spell, and save them all. Now, with the help of her son, it's up to Emma to save the citizens of Storybrook, Maine, and bring an end to the reign of the evil mayor, Regina. Nominated for best drama, Once Upon a Time is a great show for teens, and shows that fairytales aren't just for bedtime. Watch it on January 8!

Code Orange Book Review

I recently finished reading Code Orange, by Caroline B. Cooney. Overall, I loved the book, and recommend it for anyone in sixth grade or above. Code Orange is about a boy named Mitty Blake, who while searching in his family's library one day discovered scabs from the variola major outbreak of the 1800's. Because variola major-commonly known as smallpox-is a highly contagious disease, when Mitty handled the scabs, he brought the disease back to present times, and endangered everyone in New York City. Code Orange is a great book with a strong plot, and many twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the very end. Pick up a copy today!!!

With Their Eyes Book Review

Recently, I finished reading With Their Eyes, edited by Annie Thoms. Originally a play, this book was written about the events of September 11, 2001, and is told through the eyes of people at Stuyvesant High School--four blocks from ground zero. Over the course of the story, you hear the experiences of students witnessing the tragedy, teachers unsure of how to react, custodians responsible for the cleanup, and many more that will show you different views of September 11, and let you know what the tragedy was like from their perspective. I really enjoyed With Their Eyes, and recommend it to anyone in high school looking for a good nonfiction book.

Every Soul A Star Book Review

Recently, I finished reading Every Soul A Star, by Wendy Mass. This book is great for anyone between 6th and 8th grade looking for a quick read. The story revolves around three main characters; Alpha (Ally), Bree, and Jack; all soon-to-be eighth-graders witnessing a solar eclipse. Over the course of the story, Ally and Bree discover that they are moving: one to a city, and the other to the middle of nowhere;however, neither has ever known another home. In the end of the story, the two become good friends, and with the help of Jack, they make an amazing discovery. Every Soul A Star is a great book for anyone, (especially those who enjoy astronomy) and I am really happy that I read it.

Fablehaven is a fantastic serise that consists of five novels written by Brandon Mull. If you have a passion for reading fantasy then this is your serise! Fablehaven is my number one favorite serise of all time! The story first starts out with two siblings: Seth and Kendra who go to visit their grandparents house. Then they are told by their grandparents to drink some magical milk, which allows them to see all the magic that most humans can't see.While there they stumble across some very unusual things, like a giant one hundred foot tall, magical cow named Viola. Jelous faries, clever demons, a mysterious witch, troublesome trolls and much more. On their adventures they discover that they have some very powerful abilites themselves. However a powerful demon is trying to collect all five artifacts that will open a demon prison, which will destroy the entire world! Will Seth and Kendra be able to stop him before time runs out? Or will the entire world be gone forever? You'll have to read to find out!

Ranger's Apprentice: Ruins of Gorlan by John Flanagan, is one of the best books of the century! (In my opinion of course.) It is about a boy named Will who becomes Halt's (the ranger) apprentice. Halt is a very mysterious man who doesn't like questions and is very tough on Will. On the other hand Will is a very curious boy whose doesn't know his biological parents and his talent is climbing . Meanwhile Will's friend Horace went to battle school where he spends most of his time avoiding Alda, Bryan and Jerome, who torment him on a daily basis. Then when Halt and Will are out on their horses they stumble across a poor old farmer who needs them to slay a wild boar. They gather up a bunch of apprentices along with their teachers to slay the boar. However theres a second boar headed straight for Horace, Will and his horse named Tug. Are these apprentices strong enough to slay the boar? Or will the boar slay them first? You'll have to read to find out!

Ginny Blackstone is a completely average girl with a completely eccentric aunt. After years of living in an apartment in New York City, Aunt Tally disappears to Europe, sending the occasional postcard or letter. Then comes a letter from a person in England saying Aunt Tally has passed. The usual rituals are completed, and Aunt Tally is gone...that is, until three months later, when Ginny gets a random little blue envelope from her Aunt Tally telling her to pack only one backpack (with the exception of a guide book, and any modern technology) get a passport, anda plane ticket.
Before Ginny boards the plane, she is told to go to the 4th Noodle, the restaurant under Aunt Tally's old apartment, and pick up a package. Inside the package are 12 more little blue envelopes just like the first. As the story goes on, Ginny finds that she is to follow each envelope exactly as they say before she opens the next one. The envelopes lead her from England to Rome to Paris to Greece and back to England. Along the way she meets the people that Aunt Tally had made relationships with before she passed, and makes her own new relationships through the directions of the envelopes. And while Ginny is on this journey, not only does she find the joys of traveling, but she finds herself changing drastically along with each discovery, to a point where she can never go back.

CHICAGO — More than 8,000 teen readers across the country chose “Eclipse” by Stephenie Meyer as their favorite book in the annual Teens’ Top Ten (TTT) vote, sponsored by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA). Miranda is a quiet girl who just graduated high school. She's moving on to bigger and better things or better known as the Lone Star College. She has to go early to take a precalc class during the summer, and since the dorms are not open, she ends up boarding with Missy and Katherine.....and Mother too. At one point she decides to start drum lessons, and finds that she's a natural! Getting into a band is also included, with the upside of an awesome bass player. She follows Missy's advice to glam up for him, but finds him slowly fading away. Can Miranda figure out what's making him leave in time?

A brother and a sister have a great relationship. The brother goes and hangs out with some friends and he dies in a car accident. The sister thinks she can help her brothers soccer team by playing in his place since they always fooled around with the soccer ball. She trains vigorously. Her and her father fight for her to get on the boy's soccer team. She tries out, but she get on the junior squad. She's not happy but she plays anyway. The coaches gives her, her brothers jersey. Does the school team win or do they lose against an opposing team.

Suze has to continuously save the ex, stop Heather, and focus on the hot, 150-year-old ghost Jesse, and his mysterious death. He also lives in her room. They get through them all and make it to the BIGGEST, MOST POPULAR race in the race car racing world. If you have seen the commercials, it does not do the movie the credit it deserves. The Unexpected Apprentice

This is the type of fantasy that can attract the reader within seconds of reading the novel. This curious book is about a female halfling whose family was murdered by supernatural creatures that feel no pain. One of the young halfling's brothers was off to train as a wizard until his unexpected death came, so the halfling fled her home to take up residence as an apprentice to her brother's mage. The story does not end there though, in the middle of her training she is expected to save the world as she knows it and learn some unpleasent suprises along the way. A non-stop adventure book that deserves 4 and a half stars, for no book is perfect.

Employee of the Month is non-stop hilarious fun. One is a head cashier. The other is a box boy. The head cashier has been employee of the month for 17 months in a row. If he gets 18 months in a row, he will have broken the record for being employee of the month. A new employee comes in and the head cashier and box boy really like her. In order to get her attention, one must be employee of the month. Head cashier and box boy compete until the end. Who wins? Who gets the girl? 5 stars (PG-13)

The widower decides to adopted the boy but his sister doesn't think it would be the right thing to do. He goes ahead and does it anyway. Carly Biels is a senior with great grades, an awesome boyfriend, and a legacy to Princeton. She believes that she can have the perfect life...until she gets her SAT scores back. Let's just say...she flunked. Big time. And if she doesn't redo her SAT and get a much better score, then the door will close on her future. Until she gets a message from the Taker. The Taker is someone who will take the test for Carly and get her a near perfect score. But then she has to pay a price for the Taker, as well as worry about getting caught. So, for this girl with a good life so far, will she risk everything for her great future? You'll have to read the book to find out!

Hilarious father-daughter moments with an annoying little brother and a "Houdini" pig. The father won't let go of his daughter go to college of her dreams. He wants her to go to college a half hour away in Chicago, but she wants to go to Washington, D.C. There are tons of really hilarious moments! The must-see family movie of the year.

Reed Brennan is a sophmore who has been accepted to Easton Academy, an elite boarding school, on a scholarship. As ready as she is to leave her broken life in Pennsylvania, Reed isn't quite prepared for what's waiting for her. The classes are much harder, she has little friends, and just as she thinks she's going to lose her scholarship, the Billings Girls, from the legendary Billings housing, dawn their golden beem upon her. Suddenly Reed has become popular, sitting with the Billings Girls, knowing their secrets, getting their support and help. But in order to be with them, Reed must be willing to do anything for them, even if it does mean getting expelled. I read this book in about a day. Reed's experiences are things that most girls would do if put in that situation, but many of us aren't. It is a fabulous book, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes a mix of danger, suspence, love, and adventure, with an exciting twist at the end!
