I recently read Close to Famous, by Joan Bauer. This book is gret for middle school students, especially those with an interest in baking. Close to Famous is about an aspiring baker named Foster who fled from a dangerous Elvis impersonater in Memphis to Culpepper, a small town in North Carolina. Here, Foster was forced to begin a new life, meet new friends, and with the help of a retired movie star; face one of the biggest challenges in her life--learning to read. Close to Famous is a touching book about believing in yourself, following your dreams, and making some delicious cupcakes along the way.
