September and October 2016 Programs


Young Adult Program
September –October 2016

Young Adult registration begins, Monday, August 29 at 10am.
Programs are for teens in grades 6-12.
Patrons who register for programs that require fees have one week to come in and pay for the program before their spot is released. Please follow each program’s instructions, and have Teen’s Library Card available. If you have allergies, please be aware that the Library cannot guarantee that the materials/food are free of ingredients that may affect you. Teen Speak: National Chocolate Milkshake Day
Monday, September 12, 4-5pm
We know you’re back to school and wanting to take a break! Come in for a Chocolate Milkshake and we’ll play some games with you! BPY202

Geek Out… Introduction to 3D Printing
Monday, September 19, 4-5pm
We’ve brought a new 3D printer and this is your chance to come in and see what it can do! We will be printing and learning all about it. BPY500 

Minecraft             
Fridays, September 30 and October28, 4-6pm
We’ve combined the Teens and Tweens Minecraft! Come in and play a few games, challenge yourself, challenge your friends or work on the challenge we give you. We’ll have surprises and refreshments!  On Friday, September 30 we will be making Minecraft items on our new 3D printer to give away during the game. Teens and Tweens can also stay to learn more about the 3D printer. BPY205

3D Printing – Minecraft edition
Friday, September 30, 6-7pm
We will be printing out a few more items from Minecraft and showing off our 3D printer. Anyone who wanted to learn more about the 3D printer can come in an watch it work. BPY300

Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind/America’s Vet Dog Tour
Saturday, October 8, noon
Meet at the Foundation 371 East Jericho Turnpike, Smithtown, NY
The Foundation provides guide dogs to the blind, and service dogs to veterans in need and we will have an opportunity to meet an Ambassador dog or a future guide or service dog and listen to a presentation on the program. Then we will be able to walk around five key areas of the campus. BPY610

Teen Read Week
Read for the Fun of it
Week: October 9-15
Teen Read Week is held every year in October and is a national literacy initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of American Library Association.  It’s aimed at teens, their parents, librarians, educators, booksellers and other concerned adults. Teen Read Week’s theme is Read For the Fun Of It this year and we want to be able to encourage all teens to read for pleasure. There will be plenty of activities all week in the Young Adult area for all teens to participate.

Geek Out… National Chocolate Cup Cake Day
Monday, October 17, 4-5pm.
Yes, that’s right a National Chocolate Cup Cake Day. Come in and indulge yourself and then play some games with us! BPY500

Dinner and a Book
Wednesday, October 19, 5-6pm
Tuesday, November 1, 5-6pm
While we eat some pizza let’s sit around and talk books in this very informal book club. Bring in your favorite book to talk about, peruse some books to check out, trade books and play a few book games. BPY507

Secrets of the Rookskill Castle Mystery
Saturday, October 22, 7-9pm
Rookskill Castle has many secrets. Some you’ll find. Some will find you. Clever readers will work in teams to solve clues hidden here at the Library and search for the objects that will uncover the spine-chilling secrets at Rookskill Castle. Register early for this chilling evening at the Library filled with refreshments, challenges and a treasure hunt. BPY605


National Candy Corn Day
Friday, October 28- October 31, All Weekend
Join us for our annual Candy Corn Count! Try your hand at counting the candy corn in the jar in the Adult Reference area.  Have fun all day! Winners will be announced on Tuesday, November 1, 2016.

Haunted House
Fridays, September 9 and October 14, 5:30-6:15pm
Sunday, October 30, 2-4pm
We need actors, helpers and all sorts of spooks for our haunted house! Register today and help us as we provide a little Halloween scare this year! BPY608

National Caramel Apple Day
