Ten Things for BBP Teens to Do This Summer

Parker Schug

  • Take a ferry over to Fire Island

With just a twenty minute boat ride, teens in Bayport-Blue Point have the luxury of getting to a beautiful strip of beaches along Atlantic Ocean. Some of the beaches that teens can take a ferry to are Davis Park, Watchhill, The Pines, Cherry Grove, and Water Island. If you are trying to save money, the Sailors Haven ferry is perfect being that it is only $14.

  • Yoga in the Park

The summer is the ideal time of year to get active and try some new exercises. On Sunday mornings at The Common Ground in Sayville, an outdoor yoga class is held (COMPLETLY FREE OF CHARGE). It is a wonderful way to start your summer week and you’re able to get in a light workout outside!

  • Flo’s

If you’re looking for a lunch spot with a super summery atmosphere, Flo’s is the place for you! Teens can go to Flo’s for lunch, dinner, or even ice cream. And the best part is that it’s just a short walk from the bay!

·         Bike ride

Bayport-Blue Point is packed with beautiful scenery. Going for a bike ride is the ultimate way to see what this town has to offer. Two favorite spots for a bike are down at the end of Blue Point Avenue or past the bay on Fairview and Gillette. Plus it’s a superb way to get in some exercise this summer!

  • Concerts at Jones Beach

All summer long there are an amplitude of concerts at the Jones Beach Theater. Although tickets can be on the expensive side, it’s a sensational way for teens to see live music. These concerts are also great because they’re outside and the theater is located on the water. There is nothing more stunning than watching the sun set over the water while listening to great music!

  • Visit a museum… FOR FREE

One of the greatest aspects of our public library is that anyone can reserve day passes for a variety of museums! With a museum pass you can chose to visit a museum of your choice without having to pay to get into the museum. This is a magnificent opportunity to learn something, or just explore during the summertime.

  • Splish Splash

Splish Splash is a water park located in Calverton, not too far of a drive from Bayport-Blue Point. Not only is a visit to Splish Splash a splendid way to cool down during this humid summer weather, but it’s also filled with thrilling rides! (Make a note: On Black Friday, Splish Splash Season Passes are available for purchase at half-price!)

  • Wednesdays in the Park- Concert Series

Most Wednesday nights of the summer in Sayville at the Common Grounds, there are various groups performing. This is a thrilling way for teens to see live music without having to pay anything at all! For FREE, you can go see anything from a cover band to a dance group under the stars one night this summer.

·         Summerfest

August 4th through 6th in Sayville on Main Street, Summerfest will be in full effect! At Summerfest there will be food, rides, and crafts. This is a delightful opportunity for teens to take a break from their normal summer activities of swimming in the pool or going to the beach and go have some fun!

·         Read a book!

At our public library, all teens have the opportunity to join the Summer Reading Club. For every book you read and log during the summer, you get a chance at winning exciting prizes. So why not bring a book with you to the beach!

Fortunately for teens living in Bayport-Blue Point, during the summer months especially, our town is buzzing with excitement. With just a short drive or boat ride, we have loads of fun at our fingertips. There is absolutely nothing like living on Long Island during summertime!
